Hosted by BetaNYC at CUNY School of Law, this year’s conference concludes NYC’s Open Data Week 2026 and is the TENTH edition of both SoData and Open Data Week!

  • Day 1: the classic NYC School of Data conference, with programming across 12 rooms during 4 session blocks.
  • Day 2: NEW in 2026 – UnSchool of Data! The unconference agenda is created together on the day, with attendee pitches at the top of the day. Select sessions have been pre-seeded by BetaNYC to kick things off.

Level Up Your Design and Data Skills: SVA’s New MPS in Data Visualization & Communication

Learn more about the School of Visual Arts MPS in Data Visualization & Communication (DV&C), a new 10-month graduate program in New York City designed to transform complex data into persuasive visual stories that inform, connect, and move people to action.

Led by founder and chair Jason Forrest, alongside operations directors Courtney Treglia and David Rittenhouse, this session offers an inside look at the curriculum, faculty, and student experience - with a special focus on how open data, civic technology, and public-interest storytelling fit into the program.

We’ll share curriculum examples, discuss career pathways in data design and civic communication, and offer practical advice for applying before the April 15 deadline.
